| Other Info | In a solo recital at the 67th Aldeburgh Festival, Mahan Esfahani brings his trail-blazing approach and over 300 years of harpsichord repertoire rich in connections and coloured by the spirit of the dance. Underpinned by the grace and purity of early English keyboard music and Bach’s elegance and rhythmic elan, Martinu’s capricious pastiches and Bartók’s nimble, earthy cross-rhythms lead inexorably to Ligeti’s tumultuous twentieth-century keyboard inventions. Celebrated for his piano Études elsewhere this Festival, these punchy, playful fantasias exude a breathtaking bravura and instantly redefine perceptions of this gloriously versatile and oft-misunderstood instrument.
